How does my business benefit by using Chelsea Psychology EAP?

Research shows that a proactive approach for work and personal issues through an EAP
benefits employers in several ways including:

  • Reduced absenteeism and presenteeism (lost work time)
  • Improved productivity
  • Reduced workplace conflict
  • Less burn out amongst staff
  • Increased retention of valuable staff
  • Discipline issues are handled more effectively and constructively
  • Reduced managerial burden of dealing with work and personal problems of employees
  • Improved engagement and job satisfaction for employees
  • Increased motivation and productivity
  • Higher team morale

Research also indicates that EAP users build coping strategies that may be applied to future issues.

Why is Chelsea Psychology EAP better than suggesting that employees use a private mental health care provider?

If employees have instant access to cost free, psychologically trained health professionals who are committed to confidentiality, they are far more likely to access support at an earlier point for workplace or personal issues.

In this way, Chelsea Psychology EAP plays a preventative role, addressing problems before they become so significant that they result in absenteeism, presenteeism, accidents or occupational, health and safety issues.

In addition, by providing a problem-solving resource for employers and employees, Chelsea Psychology EAP can develop an in-depth knowledge of your organisation. Over time, we can understand your corporate culture and provide meaningful feedback regarding systemic issues, and assist management towards more effective leadership.

How confidential is your programme?

Protecting client confidentiality is the cornerstone of Chelsea Psychology EAP, and essential to establishing the trust that enables an employee to ask for help and share personal information.

We maintain strict confidentiality using the following guidelines:

  • The Chelsea Psychology EAP team adheres to the ethical and professional codes of conduct as outlined by our national professional body, including those that apply to confidentiality.
  • We ensure the security of records associated with an EAP agreement.
  • Chelsea Psychology EAP provides quarterly management reports to companies, designed to prevent the identification of individual users of the service.
  • We ensure that appointments organised under Chelsea Psychology EAP for eligible users are scheduled in a way that maintains confidentiality.

How and why would managers make a referral to Chelsea Psychology EAP?

The EAP is an invaluable resource when managers need to address job performance problems. Informal consultation (via a phone call or email) can be very helpful to managers in deciding if an employee referral to the EAP is appropriate. We coach managers and supervisors in effective ways to deal with performance problems, make referrals to Chelsea Psychology EAP if necessary, and we can help with the ongoing management of the employee referral.

Steps for Making A Referral

The key is early intervention. The sooner an employee recognises and deals with underlying problems, the easier they will be to resolve. Employees can contact Chelsea Psychology EAP directly, and will be guided through the correct procedures, as determined in our discussions with you.

There are two types of referrals management can make to Chelsea Psychology EAP:

Informal:
You can initiate an informal referral if you become aware that an employee is experiencing personal problems, but at this point there are no job performance issues. An informal referral is simply reminding the employee that Chelsea Psychology EAP is available.

Formal:
When the employee demonstrates job performance problems, we recommend documenting these problems, holding a job performance discussion with the employee, and making a formal referral to Chelsea Psychology EAP.
If you are not sure if you should refer an employee to Chelsea Psychology EAP, please call us for guidance.
