Registered Psychologist

Mercedes is a Registered Psychologist with more than 30 years of experience working with individuals across Australia, the United States and her native Argentina. She has a strong foundation in psychoanalytic psychotherapy having trained with leading clinicians in Argentina and New York and brings a depth-oriented, reflective approach to her work.

Mercedes has been part of Chelsea Psychology since its inception and in fact was one of the first therapists to join Jennifer Wright and Associates in 2009. She is known for her warmth, sensitivity and capacity to form meaningful therapeutic relationships. Her work is grounded in a genuine interest in understanding the inner world of her clients and the patterns that shape their emotional and relational lives over time.

Mercedes completed her initial training at the University of Buenos Aires and later undertook postgraduate training at Bellevue Hospital Centre iNew York where she lived and worked for five years. During this time, Mercedes developed extensive experience in individual and group psychotherapy, as well as cross-cultural and health psychology settings.

Mercedes’ clinical approach is informed by psychoanalytic and psychodynamic thinking with a focus on how earlier experiences, unconscious processes and relational patterns continue to influence present difficulties. She works collaboratively with clients to develop insight, increase emotional awareness and create the conditions for meaningful and lasting change.

Her experience across public and private sectors in Australia has broadened her clinical perspective and she has worked with individuals facing complex and often longstanding difficulties. She has particular experience supporting people in the resources sector, including FIFO workers and their families and those navigating redundancy, relocation and major life transitions.

Mercedes is fluent in both Spanish and English and sessions can be conducted in either or both languages.

Therapeutic approach

Mercedes is an excellent clinician with vast experience working in evidence-based approaches to therapy. She is also trained and well-grounded when working in a psychoanalytic and psychodynamic framework, with an emphasis on understanding deeper emotional processes and the significance of the therapeutic relationship.

Sessions provide a space for reflection and exploration, where patterns of thinking, feeling and relating can be understood more fully. This process often unfolds over time, allowing for a deeper integration of experience and more enduring psychological change.

Her work may be particularly suited to individuals seeking a more reflective, depth-oriented therapeutic process.
